What Are Angel Numbers?

Behind The Design - Intertwined Initials

Sometimes the origin of a piece and how an object is made is as present in it as what the piece represents or its function. This is how I feel about our Intertwined Initials pieces. The idea came about in quite a magical way. I had set out to create a monogram charm—initials for an individual, decidedly straightforward. But as I began to play around with fonts and designs, I accidentally pasted an initial right on top of another. A serendipitous accident. And the discovery of something that had quite a different impact than the letters set alone.

The journey was then to try to understand the ways the letters connect. How they interact with each other. Each letterform has such personality. Could this work and be legible? And could our artisans carve and cast and solder these custom pieces, one by one? I’m glad I didn’t let these questions stop the creative process, because you never know.

We tinkered on the letter combinations for many months, until we felt like they all worked well. Our artisans have to combine the letters in just the right way in order to solder them so they sit well on the base of the charm. We were so delighted that they kept going on the harder combinations, eventually mastering all.

The design was released with the name Intertwined Initials, which just felt right. The road to the birth of this custom piece has given it a lot of gravitas. It is a very intentional piece. Each charm or pendant holds an emotional memory beyond the letterforms, deeper into the mystery of love: the dance of the intertwined letters (which I sometimes refer to as a “lovers knot”) seems to carry an energy of this invisible force—our magnetic bond to one another.

I love how classic and gender-neutral this design is (in all its forms, as we have expanded the collection to include several different bases). Whether you go the traditional monogram route (your own initials), or entangle your initials with your partner’s (or friends, or siblings—anyone you are connected to!) this pendant carried all the love conveyed by those letters in a unified form.

The Intertwined Initials celebrate not just how we are bound to each other, but also how we are homeward bound to ourselves, and to love itself. The glorious tangle of initials holds close the dynamic joy in giving love and being loved—something so powerful, something to never forget.

How to Attach A Pendant To A Necklace: 4 Ways

The pendant necklace has become such a staple part of jewelry accessorizing that many necklace wearers are seeking out ways to expand a pendant collection or start one. This is easy to do because individual pendants now come in a wide variety of designs and themes. It’s also trendy to wear various pendants and chains together in unique ways, meaning you can choose to wear two or more pendants at the same time.

The desire to be more fashionable with pendants can lead to the common question of how to go about attaching a pendant to a necklace of your choice. Sure, you can always slide a pendant onto a chain, but we’re talking about attaching the pendant semi-permanently or permanently in one place so that the necklace looks just the way you want. Consider all of the following attachment methods and choose one or more to create a unique necklace look.

Jump Ring Method

The jump ring is a small connector piece that is commonly used in jewelry making to connect a pendant to a chain. They are usually circular in shape, but they can be made into other shapes such as ovals or squares. Connecting jump rings is typically a simple task requiring a pair of jewelry pliers. Using the pliers, pull the ring slightly apart to create enough space to slip the connector onto one of the links in the necklace. Next, slide jump ring onto the pendant’s connector. Use the pliers to close the jump ring securely.

Bail Method

A bail is a necklace connector that is typically more decorative and weightier than the average jump ring. Bails come in various styles, and they serve the purpose of helping to flatten the pendant against the body when its hanging on the neck, keeping it from twisting around. There are two types of bails – standard and pinched. Standard bails can be used with jump rings to attach a pendant. Pinched bails usually have their own mechanism for opening the bail and attaching it to the pendant. Using this method may require some familiarity with jewelry making techniques.

Head Pin and Eye Pin Method

Head pins are jewelry making wires that come in various thicknesses. It is typically used for pendants with drilled holes. The pin is inserted into the hole of the pendant, and then bent into a lop shape for attaching to a chain. Pliers are needed to wrap the end of the wire around the head of the pin for closure.

The eye pin is a wire with a similar look to the head pin. The difference is that eye pins have a round loop at the top that opens like a jump ring. It is necessary to bend the straight part of the wire to create a secure connection. This method is somewhat time consuming and requires learning a jewelry making technique.

Charm Clip Method

Considering that all of the above methods require patience and a bit of skill with using jewelry pliers, you may be wondering if there is an easier way to connect pendants and necklaces. Yes, there is, and it’s called a charm clip. These clips are small jewelry connectors that already have closures built-in that are easy to open and close. They connect to jump rings that come with the pendant and can be used with corded and chain necklaces.

How to Restore & Protect Your Gold-Plated Jewelry

The warmth and beauty of gold plated jewelry is appealing to just about everyone who is attracted to its gleaming luxuriousness. Its popularity means that you can find jewelry pieces that are gold plated just about anywhere. However, only the finest quality jewelry is gold plated with 14k or 18k gold. Collecting gold plated jewelry can make you happy, but over time, you may notice that your jewelry pieces are becoming tarnished and losing their luster. Instead of tossing them in the “never wear again” pile, you can take steps to restore your jewelry and enjoy wearing it once more.

Why Does Gold Plated Jewelry Tarnish?

When gold is exposed to light and air, it begins what is known as an oxidization process. The tendency for gold to oxidize under these conditions is a natural one and every time you wear your jewelry the oxidizing goes into effect, eventually causing discoloration. The natural oil from your skin as well as dirt, dust and chemicals from lotions and other moisturizers also contribute to tarnishing.

Cleaning Your Jewelry

The best, and easiest, way to remove tarnish from gold plated jewelry is to clean the jewelry piece. There are three proven and safe methods for cleaning this type of jewelry.

Cleaning Method 1: Soap and Water

When your gold-plated jewelry is only a bit dull but not too bad to look at, you can do a light cleaning using soap and water. All you need is a bowl or container big enough to hold the jewelry. Fill the bowl with warm water and pour in some mild liquid soap. Mix to distribute the soap. Put the jewelry into the container and let it soak for a few minutes. Remove the jewelry and rub all surface areas with a soft cloth. You can use a toothbrush to clean any hard-to-reach areas.

Once you are satisfied that dirt and grime are gone, rinse the jewelry with warm water. Dry jewelry with a lint-free cloth.

Cleaning Method 2: Jewelry Polishing Cloth

These are specialty cloths made of natural fibers designed for cleaning and polishing jewelry. Following instructions, you rub areas that are dull and dirty with the cloth to remove tarnish.

Cleaning Method 3: Baking Soda and Salt

For some jewelry pieces, a deep clean may be necessary due to extreme tarnishing. If this is the case, you can turn to this method for a solution.

Here’s what you need:

1 tablespoon salt

1 tablespoon baking soda

Hot water

Dry cloths

Glass bowl

Aluminum foil

Step 1: Line the bowl with the foil, making sure the shiny side is face up.

Step 2: Add the salt and baking soda to the bowl.

Step 3: Add hot water to the bowl and make sure there is enough water to cover the jewelry. Let the salt and baking soda completely dissolve.

Step 4: Place jewelry into the bowl and let it sit for several minutes.

Step 5: Watch black and yellow flakes from the gold-plated jewelry float towards the foil. This means the solution is working.

Step 6: Remove jewelry from water and rub it with a lint-free cloth.

Step 7: Rinse the jewelry under running warm water and dry it with another lint-free cloth. You are done!

Protecting Your Gold-Plated Jewelry

Keep your gold-plated jewelry looking good longer by letting lotions and moisturizers completely dry before wearing it. Also, store the jewelry in protective jewelry bags and/or boxes that don’t expose it to air.
