What does Waxing Poetic mean?
What does Waxing Poetic mean?
One definition will say that ‘waxing poetic’ means ‘speaking in a flowery or poetical fashion,’ but another focuses more on the individual words and reminds us that ‘waxing’ means ‘to become, to evolve into something else’ (like a waxing moon), and ‘poetic’ means… well, just that, and everything related. To continue to pay attention, as poets do, is to continue to grow… which is to continue to evolve and become who we are truly meant to be. And, because we love double entendres here, our name also pays homage to the lost wax process… the lovely way a shape is temporarily held in wax from which a mold is created, and then gently melted away to leave its permanent mark – the mold – to be filled again and again.
Enduring, oldfangled silver
I have been working in sterling silver for over fifteen years and it is something akin to a material love affair. I first fell in love with silver as a young girl… my mother and grandmother had beautiful pieces in sterling silver amongst their more costumey pieces, and there was always a quality about these silver pieces that I loved. They were collectible, inscribed, and felt real. They were treasured, worn and loved. They had a history and felt cultural and special.
Silver can be worked in so many ways - I just love these processes. When I visit our artisans in Bali and watch them work, I am just swept up in the humble humanity and warmth of their techniques. Pulling silver wire by hand, assisted by a small motor, is the very beginning of it. Casting, hammering, twisting, polishing, pickling, oxidizing... all with the wonderful energy it calls for (and maybe room for stones in various bezels that are hand set). This feels like the authentic way to produce our designs… the antithesis of mass produced jewelry. So enduring, like the people who wear the jewelry.
This warm, clean artful metal remains timeless and at the core of Waxing Poetic’s aesthetic, and ready now more than ever to grace our lovely necks, wrists and fingers when we need a dose most.
Keeping it real, xo,
Patti
Ella’s Poetic Style
“Waxing Poetic gifts come from people you love, people who know you, people who want to give you something individual and special that you will cherish forever.”
Ella Walker (“the Eldest of three”, as she so eloquently stated) is a young woman living in the city and finding the balance of work life and making time for her sisters, family, friends, pup Caddy, and all the wonderfulness life has to offer. Here she talks about what she loves about Waxing Poetic, and what it feels like to receive waxing poetic as a gift.
When we interviewed each sister, we asked them the same 5 questions.
Here are Ella’s answers.
1. What would you call your personal style?
i.e. Preppy, Bohemian, Glam etc.
I can’t really generalize my style because its constantly changing, and I feel like by calling it something other then “Ella’s Style” I am trying too hard to fit into that category. So I guess “Ella’s Style” is current, comfortable, and strictly unique to me. Tamsyn tries to give me style advice, but I am rarely comfortable wearing what she suggests because that’s her style.
2. Who is your greatest style icon?
Blake Lively, I wish she was my best friend. I think we’d get along swimmingly.
3. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have one thing with you, what would it be?
My dog, Harry Potter series, knitting supplies, and my audiobook collection. Its basically a vacation.
4. If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
David Attenborough, the gentleman who does the narration for every successful nature show ever.
5. What is your favorite quote or line of Poetry?
“Accendit cantu”latin for “rise up singing”

Tamsyn Walker’s take on Waxing Poetic
“When I receive a gift from Waxing Poetic,
the feeling is absolutely incredible.”
Tamsyn Walker, the youngest of 3 sisters, just graduated High School, is currently touring Europe, and here, talks about what she loves most about Waxing Poetic, her sense of style and a fun little Q&A.
When we interviewed each sister, we asked them the same 5 questions.
Here are Tamsyn’s answers.
1. What would you call your personal style?
i.e. Preppy, Bohemian, Glam etc.
I don't have a specific style. My clothes aren't retro, bohemian, preppy, or anything like that. I kinda just mix it all together. However, I would say that I lean to an edgier look trying out some more daring pieces every now and then.
2. Who is your greatest style icon?
There are so many great style icons, it is really hard to say. I have currently been obsessed with what Cara Delevinge has been wearing.
3. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have one thing with you, what would it be?
I probably would want a satellite phone so I could call for help and get rescued. Not very whimsical but very practical!
4. If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
I would go to dinner with Cleopatra. I think she is an incredibly interesting historical figure that did a lot for a women in her era.
5. What is your favorite quote or line of Poetry?
One of my favorite quotes that has always stuck with me is, "Fear is stupid, so are regrets."- Marilyn Monroe
